Located in the redwood-lined hills of Mill Valley, CA, this residential landscape design was developed in proud collaboration with Jennifer Bromme Landscape Design. The project reimagines a private backyard as an upscale outdoor environment where family, friends, and neighbors can naturally gather throughout the day. The core design objective focused on a seamless balance between social interaction and private solace—creating a highly functional, welcoming exterior that supports both lively group gatherings and quiet personal reflection within a unified visual language.
The spatial architecture is organized through meticulous zoning, gentle structural transitions, and clear sightlines that optimize movement without feeling forced. To anchor the space in the Northern California landscape, we specified a tactile, high-durability material palette featuring warm architectural wood, textured natural stone, and abundant native greenery. Pathways guide visitors intuitively through the layout, guiding the eye toward purposefully positioned seating areas that invite pause, adjacent to open zones designed for flexible daily use.
Light serves as a central element in shaping the garden’s shifting atmosphere. The custom outdoor lighting design filters sunlight through trees and architectural pergolas during the day, casting dynamic geometric shadows across the hardscaping, before seamlessly transitioning into a warm, intimate evening environment. By combining rigorous spatial logic with emotional resonance, the resulting design blueprints and photorealistic 3D interior and exterior renderings provide a sophisticated template for modern Bay Area outdoor living.
